In 1951, José Merín, creator of the Diana and Cayetana dolls, joined the company and changed its name to RIMER. This company owns the few plastic injection machines in Onil.
In 1957, the company joined FAMOSA, and many of its models continue to be manufactured under the FAMOSA brand. Cayetana Doll Diana Brand
The most popular doll is the one called Cayetana, created in 1945 to compete with Mariquita Pérez. She was called “the Grace of Spain.” She walks, sleeps, sits, says “Mom and Dad,” and dresses in all the regional costumes. The name comes from the fact that Duchess Cayetana of Alba herself was her godmother.
Made in cardboard paste, natural or mohair hair, open mouth with two rows of teeth, its height is about 45 cm. Since 1957 FAMOSA continues to manufacture it in polystyrene branded Diana, with a stylized body and in a variety of races: Indian, Japanese, bold, etc.
Celluloid
In the last quarter of the 19th century, celluloid began to compete with traditional materials used in doll making, such as biscuit, wood, paper, and cloth.
Consequently, it was a versatile substance, made from pyroxylin (cellulose nitrates) and camphor, as well as an inexpensive and easy-to-produce material.
It was widely used for making dolls, as well as many household items, until the mid-1950s, when it was replaced by other plastics. Diana brand Cayetana doll
Celluloid
Celluloid was first developed and used for Hyatt Brothers dolls in New Jersey in the late 1860s. Their company registered the name “celluloid” in 1869. Although the product was patented, the word “celluloid” is often used to describe all types of pyroxylin mixtures, regardless of the manufacturer.
The manufacturing process for celluloid dolls. The first step is to place the solid celluloid substance in a two-piece metal mold. The second step is to introduce steam or hot air into the mold under pressure, softening the celluloid so it adapts to the mold’s shape. Cayetana doll Diana brand.
