Celluloid Turtle Kammer & Reinhardt Doll. Doll, articulated in the neck, arms and legs. She has crystal eyes and fixed, facial coloration, open mouth, molded painted hair. It measures about 34 cm. This doll arrived in my hands in perfect condition. The tires have been changed.

 

On his head he has a Turtle and the number 28, attributed to the Schildkrot brand. On the body it has a K and R with a 6 pointed star and the mold number 3, attributed to the Kammer & Reinhardt brand.

 

The Mark Schildkrot

Established in Bavaria in 1873 by Friedrich Bensinger, the Reinische Gummi-und Celluloid Fabrik was the major producer of celluloid in Germany.

Schildkrote is the German word for turtle, and the company’s main trademark was a walking turtle encased in a diamond, which was molded on the doll necks and bodies like Celluloid Turtle Kammer & Reinhardt Doll

Therfore the mark is raised. In some cases the diamond is omitted, or the turtle is enclosed in a circle, square, oval, triangle, or hexagon. Other manufacturers of celluloid also used the trademark of a turtle therfore to represent durability, however, the raiser turtle-in-a-diamond was exclusive to the Rheinische Gummi und Celluloid -Fabrik.

 

The mark Kämmer & Reinhardt

In 1932 Kämmer & Reinhardt became the leading company in Waltershausen, surpassing Kestner.

The company also marketed composition paste, rubber and celluloid dolls manufactured by the Rheinische Gummi a Celluloid-Fabrick Co. under the Tortuga brand the same Doll Celluloid Turtle Kammer & Reinhardt.
