Virgin of the Ribbon

The Virgin of the Ribbon or Our Lady of the Ribbon is one of the various invocations of the Virgin Mary.

This invocation gives name to all those people who are called Cinta or Maria Cinta. It gives its name to the Hospital of Tortosa. It gave it to a privately owned metal bridge. Now gone, or to a decorative stone originally from Tortosa and known abroad as brocatello di Spagna.
From Century XVI the tradition considers that the Virgin made appearance in the cathedral. Tortosa giving a tape to a priest – of unknown name, relic that since then is venerated in soothes dertosense. From the 1870s the miraculous apparition is considered to have taken place on the night of March 24-25, 1178.
There were two fragments of the Holy Ribbon. Currently, the Cathedral of Santa Maria preserves the small one that measures “two palms of Tortosa”.
The large reliquary (1619), with the part of the relic it contained. Has been missing since the Spanish Civil War. With other pieces of high artistic value. They could have been embarked in France aboard the yacht Vita in late February 1939 bound for Mexico. The small reliquary was located, apparently in Darnius, and returned on July 9, 1939.
