Walking bisque Kammer & Reinhardt antique Doll (porcelain) an antique composition body. The wig is mohair and original. The original eyes are glass and moveable. It measures about 15 cm. The dress and underwear are original.
On the back of the head it is marked with the K and R mark with a 6-pointed star and the number 401. Wrist attributed to the Kämmer & Reinhardt brand.
German character Dolls
In particular, makers in France continued to create dolls of an almost idealized femininity and beauty, German companies of the late nineteenth century turned their attention toward a novel idea of dolls with facial features modeled on those of real people. Although several manufacturers produced their own versions of these character dolls, they were called Kämmer and Reinhardt . Earlier, founded in 1886 at Waltershausen in Thuringia by doll designer Ernst Kämmer and Franz Reinhardt, it was the first company to register the Character Doll as a trade name , in 1909.
Surprisingly, Kammer and Reinhardt made only doll bodies, but also produced complete dolls using bisque heads made to its specifications by one of the German porcelain factories. The Kämmer & Reinhardt brand
Kämmer & Reinhardt, of Waltershausen, is one of the most famous firms in the field of doll collecting and is known above all for its character dolls; They are perhaps the creme de la creme of the German doll industry in terms of price, rarity and degree of collecting. The company started in 1886. Ernst Kämmer and Franz Reinhardt, a salesman, was the first company to register Character Doll’s trade name, in 1909.
They introduced new cordage methods for dolls’ bodies. Any innovation had to be patented because, if not, on having so much competition, they were copied. They also produced complete dolls with cookie heads made to your specifications by one of the German porcelain factories.
