Pepin Doll ; body and celluloid head. The doll arrived in my hands with the eyes drooping which have been applied. It measures about 37 cm.

Pepín Doll

Pepín was created by Santiago Molina and inherited by the new Famosa. It was made in different sizes (35 cm, 45 cm …). He has a polystyrene head, a stone cardboard body and his hair is modeled on the same polystyrene. The latest models are made of this material.

The modeling of her hair flakes are very well crafted fact highlighted in the features of this doll. Pepin’s eyes are pendulous and were mostly blue or brown.

On numerous occasions it is not marked; when it appears marked it presents / displays its name written in the neck. Pepin smiles and looks amused at whoever looks at him.

The Stone papier-maché Dolls

The manufacture of dolls in Spain was created in the first workshop in 1878 by Ramon Mira Vides. These industrial workshops were centralized in the town of Onil. Over time, the materials changed to the use of the so-called stone cardboard.

During the 1940s in Spain it was the great absolute empire of the stone cardboard doll. Not only the popular Pepona that was made of this material, although its appearance was rougher, because it was less worked and polished; but also the most luxurious dolls. The stone cardboard doll lasted its manufacture until the arrival of plastic during the second half of the fifties. The use of plastic was introduced regularly from the sixties.
